John Schmidt joined the Aero Law Group in 2004. His practice includes aircraft and international business transactions.
During his time at Aero Law Group John has negotiated commercial aircraft contracts for almost all models of Boeing and Airbus aircraft, including multiple purchase agreements for both the 787 Dreamliner and the A350.
John’s practice also includes representing clients buying and selling virtually all makes and models of corporate aircraft. In 2008 John led the Aero Law Group team that negotiated the purchase of eleven Gulfstream G650 aircraft in a six-week period.
Prior to joining the firm, John spent 17 years at Boeing. He negotiated aircraft sales contracts with airlines across Europe and commercial contracts with various foreign governments, including Russia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Brunei. John also was involved in Boeing’s business development activities in Russia, which included work to establish an all-inclusive program to support Boeing aircraft in Russia, including maintenance, overhaul, training, spares and technical data.
John received his law degree from the University of Washington. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Soviet International Studies from Willamette University. John also studied at the University of Zagreb, Leningrad State University and the University of Hamburg. John has been a guest lecturer in international law at Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China. He speaks Russian and German.
John is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Russian-American Economic Cooperation in Seattle, the International Research and Exchange Organization in Washington, D.C. and the Seattle World Affairs Council. In 2001 he was chosen as a Fellow of the World Affairs Council.
John is a member of the state bar of Washington and the American Bar Association.
In his spare time, John tries to keep up with his wife and two teenage sons.
